Introduction

This page will guide you through creating and placing orders for lab equipment, reagents, and other supplies. Please refer to each section below for step-by-step instructions.

Inventory

We keep track of our inventory using google sheets. In general, the inventory shows what items we have in stock (be they reagents or lab equipment), the location of all items, and any other information of use (i.e. links to chemical MSDS sheets). The inventory should be updated monthly and can only be accessed once you've been added to the shared lab folder on Google Drive. Click below to access the current inventory.

Freezer Inventories

We keep track of freezer contents using Genemod. Only users who have been added to Genemod as Admins have access to the fridge inventory.

Step 1: Building an order

Our lab orders through various suppliers, either via obtaining a quote or by copying product information to an order spreadsheet. Click below to view vendor contact information and detailed instructions on how to format an order request.

Step 2: Placing an order

For our lab, placing an order is relatively simple! Once you have your order formatted and any necessary quotes obtained, simply confirm the order details with Alex and then send the order to Trish Artis, the department's budget coordinator. Click below for a template email that you can use to complete this step.

Step 3: Recieving orders

All orders will be delivered to the Bioinformatics Office on the 3rd floor. Someone will then bring them to either the lab or Alex's office (Bioinformatics 357).
The main things to be mindful of when receiving orders is that:
1. All packing slips must be kept and given to Trish Artis as either a physical or photo copy.
2. All items to be refrigerated or frozen should be stored appropriately ASAP after delivery.
3. All packing materials/cardboard boxes should be broken down and placed either behind the recycling bin in the lab, or if too large, taken down to the trash or recycling containers by the loading dock. We have a foldable cart by the lab freezers that can be used to transport heavy items.
